Major reforms that may affect migrants
The Australian government has brought many changes to the migration system this year. Now we will see only the important ones in detail.
Amendment 1: The Australian Government has almost doubled the application fee for student visas. Experts from Australia say that this fee increase can affect students in a big way. This fee has increased from Aus$710 to Aus$1600.
Amendment 2: The Australian Government has lowered the age limit for the Temporary Graduate Visa for some nationalities. This age limit was earlier 50 years but now it has been reduced to 35 years. Keep in mind that this is only for a select number of countries. It does not apply to all nationalities. So conform to what is the age limit for your country.
Amendment 3: The Australian Government was earlier to offer visitor visa holders the option to convert their visa to a student visa. But now visitor visa holders cannot convert that visa to student visa while in Australia (onshore). Temporary graduate visa holders cannot convert and renew their visa while onshore in Australia. But you may do it offshore. We can hear the experts say why this big change, which means that in the last year alone approximately 36,000 students have come to Australia. Migration experts say this is a bigger increase than the Australian government thinks.
Amendment 4: Temporary skilled migration income threshold (TSMIT) has been increased to $73150 from $70000 annually. It seems to be a fortunate change in this year.
Amendment 5: Hepatitis B Test has made mandatory for high risk nationals. If you are above 15 years of age then you must carry this test report while traveling to Australia. So confirm whether your country is in the high risk country list and take this hepatitis B test.
