What is PAN card?

Permanent Account Number is the full form of PAN card. PAN card is one of the most important documents while carrying out any financial transactions.

PAN Card carries a 10 digit Alpha Numeric unique identification number to identify tax payers in India. PAN Card is in the form of plastic card for easy carrying.

How important is PAN card?

It is an every Indian citizen’s duty to pay income tax if your yearly income exceeds the certain limit or tax slabs. Whether you are from India or living abroad, you should hold your PAN card to pay taxes to government of India. Application Forms for applying PAN Cards:

Actually there are 2 types of application forms available for PAN application.

  • Form 49A
  • Form 49AA

Both the application forms are available online and it can be downloaded free of cost. This PAN card application form is mandatory and it should be filled with proper guidelines given in the application forms guidelines section.

Form 49A is for Indian Individuals and Entities. Minor applicants can also use this form to apply for PAN card.

Form 49AA is exclusively for foreigners. 

Cost of PAN Card if applied online

Rs.93 + GST for Indian correspondence address

Rs.864 + GST for Foreign correspondence address

How to apply for PAN card online?

As said earlier, you have to fill in the application form of 49A or 49AA depending upon which category you fall in. Applicants who don’t have a PAN card in life time can apply using these methods. Please keep in mind that you cannot have 2 PAN Cards and you cannot apply for second PAN Card if you already have one and it’s illegal too.

Step 1: Please go to https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html

Step 2: In Application Type, select “New PAN – Indian Citizen (Form 49A) for Indian Citizens or select “New PAN – Foreign Citizen” for Foreign Citizens.

Step 3: In Category, Please select “Individual” if you are an individual or Association of Persons, Body of Individuals, Trust, Limited Liability Partnership, Firm, Government, Hindu Undivided Family, Artificial Juridical Person, Local Authority depends on your category.

Step 4: In Applicant Information, Read the guidelines before you proceed.

Step 5: In title, select “ Shri if you are male, Smt if you are married women, Kumari if you are unmarried women”. Fill in other details like your First and Last Name, Date of Birth, Email Id and Mobile number.

Step 6: Select the consent box by ticking it and enter the captcha and submit it.

Step 7: You will be receiving token number on the next page if you have successfully registered. Select “Continue with PAN application form”. Token number is valid for one month.

Step 8: On the next page select “Submit scanned images through e-sign” if you are uploading all the scanned supportive documents online.

Step 9: In Whether Physical PAN Card is required? Select “Yes Fees Applicable”

Step 10: Fill in all the required details on the same page and upload supportive documents for Identity Proof, Residence Proof, Age Proof, Digital Signature and Photograph. Digital Signature and Photograph should not exceed 50kb each. All the other documents in PDF format and should not exceed 300kb.

Step 11: After uploading all the supportive documents, you will be directed to Payments page. Make the necessary payment and Select Proceed and by clicking “I agree to terms of service”. You can pay Debit, Credit Cards and UPI transactions.

Step 12: You will be receiving transaction “Success” message with transactions reference number. Make a note of it for future reference.

Step 13: Select “Continue” on the same page.

Step 14: On the next  page select tick box to Authenticate Aadhaar to proceed further. Select continue to proceed.

Step 15: On the next page select “OTP Authentication”

Step 16: Type the received OTP and select “Submit”

Step 17: On the next page select “Continue with esign”

Step 18: On the next page type you Aadhaar number and select “Send OTP”

Step 19: On the next page enter your OTP and verify it.

Step 20: As final step your acknowledgement will be generated.

With the help of the acknowledgement number you can view the status of application.
